Hi!
Thanks for your interest in "Just About Write." This newsletter
hopes "To Inform and Encourage Writers, Poets, & Readers,"
to showcase authors and publicize their works, and to give readers a
chance to contribute, too.
I definitely will need the help of
many contributors to make this a valuable addition to each author’s
publicity campaign. You want to be seen? Contribute! Often, if you
want to. I’ll try to showcase as many authors per issue as seems
reasonable, without snowing people under.
Through this
ezine/newsletter, I intend to provide the following:
- Articles of interest to writers-- hone
your craft, learn promoting and marketing tips--but anything
appropriate will be considered
- Author bios--meet authors in their own
words
- Reviews--read opinions, or even submit
them
- Poems--send in your favorites (that
you’ve written yourself); two if they’re short
- Editing Bits and Bites--selections about
various aspects of editing
- Reflections--share thoughts with other
readers
- Interviews--I’ve had a suggestion for interviews. If you have
any you would like to share, send them on. Later, I will try to
set up some specific questions we can use.
I’m also toying with the idea of offering excerpts from published
or unpublished works. This publication is for you, and its success
depends on your input. Each month, I hope to present articles on
writing, marketing, and/or promoting that I believe you will find
helpful.
In addition, I want to give our readers a chance to
go behind the scenes to meet the authors, so this publication will
feature author bios from various venues--published and unpublished;
mainstream and genre; gay and lesbian; poetry and fan fiction.
I also plan on posting book reviews--perhaps even on books
awaiting publication--and highlighting one or more poems each month.
Editing Bits and Bites will feature self-editing tips and
miscellaneous editing articles.
Another feature will be
Reflections--personal insights into some facet of your writing,
reading, or poetic outpourings. All are welcome to submit their
thoughts to this subject.
Contributions for articles on various phases of writing,
marketing, and promoting are solicited, and your 5-line sig
(signature with advertisement as part of it) can be included at
the end of the article you submit. Tell us what works for you in one
or more of those areas. I’ll be the sole judge of the relevancy of
each article and which ones will be published within this
newsletter.
Each issue will contain one or more author bios, and your
submissions are solicited. Don’t be too bookish; an open, friendly
tone that has that personal touch is preferred. A 5-line sig is
allowed and encouraged.
Reviews are solicited, also. It’s all right
to tell what you don’t like about the story, just don’t
slam the author in any way. If I consider that what you send
is questionable, I’ll contact you before publication. A 5-line sig can be included,
and reviewers send material with the understanding that the
reviews may be used by authors for their own publicity needs; for
example, with proper attribution to the reviewer and this Web
site, they may post the reviews to online booksellers or use
them as book blurbs. And, please, don’t give away the plot!
If you’re looking for a review, let me know, and I’ll
advertise for a reviewer. You’ll be responsible for sending them your
book, and I make no guarantees about the review you will receive. (You
might want to ask them for a sample review, before sending your
book.)
I will edit the reviews for grammar and sense. Be aware that we
might ask you to reciprocate! And because this is a monthly
publication, you’ll need to allow for a long lead time before you’ll
receive the review. I would like to build a nucleus of talented and
fair-minded reviewers, but that remains to be seen.
At least one poem will be published each month, again from your
contributions. Send yours in, or get stuck with mine. <g> A
5-line sig can be included.
The Reflections column is open to all. This is a sort of "Letters
to the Editor," opportunity or just a chance to wax philosophically
about something related to writing, publishing, reading, etc. Go
lightly on the rants, if any, and keep all negativity impersonal.
And, please, no book synopsis or advertising in this section, though
brief mentions are okay as part of the article (For example, "I
spent the whole morning working on "Book Title.") A 5-line
sig can be included.
E-mail your bio, articles, reviews, poems, interviews,
reflections, or anything you consider noteworthy to
nanndunne@justaboutwrite.com with these words in the subject line,
as appropriate: "JAW Bio-yourlastname" or "JAW Article-yourlastname"
or "JAW Review-yourlastname" or "JAW Poem-yourlastname" or "JAW
reflections-yourlastname." (You get the idea.)
At the end of
your bio, or as part of it, include the name(s) of your work(s) and
the url of your Web site, and remember to send your 5-line sig (if
you want one) with your contributions. Please understand that, as
editor, I reserve the right to edit your copy or shorten it at my
discretion.
Pornographic material will not be accepted or advertised.
Here's a chance for authors to get some exposure, plus reviews,
plus useful information--even some pre-publication notice. And a
chance to help fellow authors get the same, while providing fans and
readers with some interesting insights into the writing process and
the people involved with it. Help me keep the public interested!
I am open to any suggestions for improvements or additions.

you.
